Catholic Schools Week is celebrated during the first week of February, and the highlight of the week in Rathcormac NS is always Grandparents Day which we celebrated on Wednesday. Over 200 people, mostly grandparents, packed the the hall for the prayer service, song, music and poetry. Fr. Michael led the prayer service, during which children brought candles to the altar, read readings and prayers of the Faithful, and two sixth class children treated us to beautiful renditions of Iniseer and Annie’s Song on the fiddle and flute respectively. As it also coincided with St. Nrigid’s Day, Fr. Michael blessed the crosses that were made in class and the school sang “Song for Brigid”. The service finished with the school musicians leading the congregation in “isle of Innisfree”
Following the prayer service each class performed a song or poem for their grandparents, and the afternoon concluded with the entire school singing “Grandma, Grandpa”, before the vising guests had a well deserved cuppa and chat.
