The school has had huge success in the Primary Schools Cross Country Championship this year. We fielded seven teams in the County event, boasting the highest entry of all schools. It was a very successful day for us as three of our teams won their events. We won gold in Junior Girls, Senior Girls and Senior Boys. Our junior boys were unlucky to lose out on a medal, coming in fourth, but we did have an individual qualify for the Connacht Championships. As well as team victories we had the winner of the senior girls, and silver and bronze in the senior boys.

The teams trained hard for the past few weeks in preparation for the Connachts. These were held on Saturday November 18th in St. Brigid’s GAA Club in Kiltoom, Co. Roscommon. Nineteen pupils made the journey. Our junior girls ran a great race, considering the majority of the team are junior again next year. We had one boy running in the junior boys ‘race, and although he had no teammates to help him along, he finished well up the field. Our senior girls were next up.  They were unfortunate to miss out on a medal, coming in fourth, but they ran very well as a team. Although they missed out on a team medal, we had an individual medal with fifth place. The final race was the senior boys. This was a fantastic race, and the boys ran really well staying in twos for the race. This tactic paid dividends, as when the scores were added up we were announced as Connacht Champions, in addition to silver individual and a top 15 finish. This was a remarkable day for the school as the standard in Connacht is extremely high. Congrats to all on their achievements.
