Planning for the Future
On Monday 20th of November 6th Class and the Student Council welcomed Leonora McConville, Mairéad O'Hara and Barry Ward from Sligo County Council Planning to Rathcormac N.S.
The planners discussed the future of our local area and informed us that Sligo County Council are currently drafting the Sligo County Development Plan (CDP) for the period 2024–2030.
The Plan sets out an overall strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of County Sligo. It addresses various issues such as the creation of sustainable communities, economic development, transport, energy, sustainable use of natural resources, protection of the environment and adaptation to climate change.
6th Class were thrilled to have their say on matters relating to the future of their local area; they voiced their opinions on environmental issues, traffic, roads, facilities for young people and what the future might hold for Rathcormac N.S. They then investigated the maps and investigated areas that may be suitable for future housing, industry and of course recreational facilities.
It was a great morning of discussion and investigation and students loved having an input on matters relating to Carney, Drumcliffe and Rathcormac. Thanks to Leonora, Mairéad and Barry for visiting our class and providing such an enjoyable experience for our pupils.
