6th Sep 2023

Today 6th class enjoyed a unique Crime Scene Investigation workshop.

Our morning began with our instructor Jim outlining his career in CSI and Gardaí forensics. We learned all about the history of forensics and investigated some of the worlds most famous crimes solved thanks to forensic science.

After that we examined fingerprints and discovered that no two finger prints are the same. We took samples of our fingerprints using ink and identification cards.

In the afternoon we learned about the different procedures and personnel that are required to carry out a CSI. Students were organised into groups of first responders, fingerprint specialists, pathologists, photographers, footprint specialists, evidence collectors, media, security and gardai. Each group worked systematically to attend and investigate the scene without causing any disturbance to evidence. The various teams then discussed their findings and pieced together the clues.

We would like to thank Jim for kindly bringing his workshop to our school, it was a fun, fascinating and intriguing insight into the world of forensics and a day that will live long in the memory of 6th Class.
