Cumann na mBunscol award 2025
On Friday the 21st of March we were delighted to welcome Ms Bernie Ryan, a Cumann an Mbunscol National Committee member, to a special assembly in the hall . The assembly was to acknowledge and celebrate the award the school received a fortnight ago at the National Cumann na Mbunscol award ceremony in Athlone. Rathcormac NS received the award for Best Large School in Ireland, which is a fantastic achievement.
Mrs Connell began the assembly by welcoming the guests and she thanked all the children for their continued commitment to sports both in school and in the local area. She thanked all the teachers for their coaching skills and dedication over the years and to Mr Kelly and Ms Bambrick for their involvement in recent years. She acknowledged the terrific support of the Drumcliff /Rosses Point GAA club and thanked Mary Power and Michael Mc Tighe who represented the club at the assembly. Mrs Connell thanked 6th class for their brilliant work on the project and for all the time and effort that had gone into it.
Ms Ryan in her speech gave the children the background to the award and the history associated with it. The award was last won in Sligo in 2002.She praised the school for it's achievements in all areas of GAA over the years. She spoke about the importance of participation and encouraged the children to continue taking part in sports.
Mr Kelly thanked Ms Ryan for taking the time to come to present the award in the school. He acknowledged all the work that has gone into GAA over the many years in the school and he thanked all the staff, children parents, and grandparents for their continued support.
