Green Schools 2022-2023
The Green schools committee is made up of 12 members. They are from classes 4th-6th. These children are on the committee for 2 years as that is the length of time it takes to achieve a Green flag.
The children of Rathcormac NS are very enthusiastic and have been doing great work promoting our green school flags over the past few months. The committee members went around to each class and told the pupils and staff about the Green flags that have been achieved so far aswell as the flag we are currently working towards which is Biodiversity. The flags we have achieved are: Water, Waste, Energy, Travel, Global citizenship & the marine environment.
Since September, the children of Rathcormac NS have carried out a survey on their current knowledge of Biodiversity. They continue to promote the themes of the other flags here in school. This term the children will be taking part in a Spring poster competition. There will also be a Spring clean of the school grounds and local area at the end of March.
The children recently worked in collaboration with the Drumcliffe tidy towns. They used acrylic paints to paint flowers, butterflies and bees onto wooden panels. This was part of the biodiversity theme.. These panels will be put onto a float which will be in the St. Patrick's Day parade next week. The children loved this activity and it was great to work with the local tidy towns committee on this activity.
