Halloween Assembly

25th Oct 2024

We were delighted to welcome a large crowd to the hall today at 11.30 am for our Halloween Assembly.
Mrs Connell began the assembly with the History of Halloween and it’s origins in Ireland and the traditions associated with it which have evolved over the years. She moved on to congratulate all the children who had taken part in recent sporting events including the relays at the ATU ,the mini 7 competition and the Schools Cross Country competition .
Other activities mentioned included the STEM workshop in association with Abbvie and the Creative Cluster initiative. Lots of children were benefiting from these fantastic programs and she thanked the teachers involved for their enthusiasm working on these projects. Maths week was a great success and she thanked Mr Brennan and the group of student helpers for their role in promoting fun maths over the previous week.
The 2 prize winners in the Credit Union art competition Amelia and Lanah received a huge round of applause from the large crowd. Well done girls.
Mrs Connell thanked the Parents Association for their support since September and all the parents who support the school with all our events.

The Hospice Coffee Day held on Thursday the 24th October  raised € 1680 to date  and she thanked all the children in 6th class,Catriona ,Sean and the Student Council for their help on the day.

We had a lovely rendition of Happy Birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ for the 12 children celebrating their birthdays around this time.Ms McGillen told the children about her plans to donate her hair as a fundraiser for the Laura Lynn Foundation and will have her hair cut at an assembly after Halloween.

All classes then performed their party pieces.

Junior Infants entertained everyone with both a poem and a song called 5 Little pumpkins . Senior Infants sang their hearts out as they sang Witches Brew and we loved all their actions. First class based their excellent performance of a poem on an extract from  the Witches ๐Ÿง™ by Roald Dahl - it had a very scary ending. Second class had some fantastic dance moves on stage performing Monster Party. We would all love to go to that party ๐ŸŽ‰.

Both third and fourth classes recited poems and we saw some great actions and characters in these very well prepared productions of The Witch’s Brew and The Marrog. Our final three performances from 5th and 6th classes all featured some dance performances. We enjoyed Thriller, Ghostbusters and the Monster Mash. We loved to see all the dance moves on the stage and the audience enjoyed joining in with the chorus of Ghostbusters-Thank you to all the children for the wide variety of wonderful performances. They were really great fun and enjoyed by everyone in the audience.

We have very talented children  here in Rathcormac . We wish them all a very happy Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ.
