We are delighted to welcome the new members of our Student Council for this school year. The Student Council began three years ago in our school. Tara and Ógie who were both members of the Student Council last year agreed to help Mrs Connell with the Student Council this year.
In late September using a PowerPoint presentation, Tara and Ógie visited each class from Third to Sixth and encouraged the children to run for election and represent the student voice here in Rathcormac NS.
Anyone could run for election once they were seconded by a classmate and they had the opportunity to present their ideas to their classes prior to the ballot. We had a great selection of posters on display around the classes and corridors as children sought election. Indeed we had some excellent Google slide presentations too. There were a couple of second ballot papers required as we had a number of children with the same number of votes after the first count. On Friday the 13th of October the results were announced to the classes.
Mrs Connell met with the Student Council Members on Monday the 16th of October. She congratulated them on their election to the committee and wished them every success in their new role in the school. Some of their first duties would involve helping at the Hospice Coffee Day and at the Halloween Assembly. Lots of great ideas were discussed at the first of this year's council. Mrs Connell is looking forward to working with this fantastic group of children.
