It was an early start for the children in Mr Brennan’s and Mr Kelly’s classes on Tuesday the 30th January 2024. The children were in school from 7.15 am for an earlier start to their table tennis taster workshop organised by Sligo Sports and Recreation .
The session began with some warm up exercises lead by Kate from Sligo Sports and Recreation and then Jing Yi took over the coaching session. Originally from China ,Jing Yi works for Table Tennis Ireland . She now lives in Northern Ireland and has represented her adopted country at two Commonwealth Games.
Deric Hartigan from Ireland Am arrived just after 7.30 am . He chatted to the children and was very impressed with their excellent behaviour and sporting talents, It was Deric’s first time to broadcast from Rathcormac and he loved the beauty of the area . The children featured several times as Deric interviewed the guests on live breakfast time TV.
Carl Brennan from the Sligo Champion took photos for the paper , we will keep an eye out for them ! All the children were ready for some breakfast when the TV crew left. Thank you to all the children who represented the school so well and to their parents for dropping them to school early on the day. Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped out with the breakfast.
We hope that some children will be inspired to take up the sport and that table tennis will feature here in Rathcormac NS for many years to come.
