Lá Glas
On Friday the 15th of March the school was filled with 400 shades of green ☘️ as we celebrated Lá Glas. Each year we celebrate this special time of year with an Irish themed assembly . It showcases the talents in our school and focuses on our Irish culture and heritage. Mrs Connell began the assembly by welcoming all the parents ,grandparents and family friends to the hall to join in the celebration.
Mrs Connell mentioned all the events the children in the school had been involved in recently. These included Engineering Week, the Cumann na mBunscol Quiz, all the Community games events, the Concern Debating Competition and our involvement with the local Tidy Towns painting panels for their float in the St Patrick's Day parade. She also congratulated children on their wins in the GAAmigos, the Swimming Gala, the table tennis tournament, and the FAI 5 aside tournament. The whole school were applauded for their involvement in the active schools Run around Europe Challenge and the Biodiversity Flag assessment.
Triona Roddy from St Vincent de Paul was delightedly to accept a cheque for €500 from Natasha Gallagher on behalf of the Parents Association. This was the proceeds of the money collected on Pancake Tuesday. Each year our Parents Association treat the children to a delicious array of toppings for their pancakes on one of their favourite school days! A charity is chosen each year to benefit from the money raised and Triona assured all present that the money would go to good causes in our local area. Mrs Connell thanked the Parents Association and all the parents for their help and support all year round to the school.
We had a terrific selection of poetry, dance, music and song to entertain ,both traditional and contemporary.
It began with our musicians led by Moninne. Our infant classes sang Lá le Padraig really well and we loved the original Shamrock ☘️ poem recited by our Senior Infants.
Lucy and Bella expertly arranged the Irish dancing groups who would put River Dance to shame !
First class sang a lovely song called I’m looking for a four leafed clover.🍀
Megan from 1st class recently won our Dance Competition and we all enjoyed her brilliant performance.
Next up on stage were Third Class who enjoyed singing Lá le Padraig and danced along with it.
Down by the Sally Gardens was performed beautifully by Heather Anne and Claire.
Mr Brennan’s class entertained everyone with their Paddy Panda 🐼 song. Following this Mr Colsh’s class sang the Rattling bog and had everyone joining in and clapping 👏 along.
Fifth class sang Oró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile ,the Sinead O’Connor version and I’m sure she would have loved it.As we neared the end , Mr Kelly’s 6th class sang Trasna na dTonnta bringing back memories of school for many of our audience members.
We finished our assembly with Ms Wood’s second class singing Hail Glorious St Patrick. A fitting ending to a wonderful assembly.
Lá Fheile Padraig sona dhaoibh. ☘️
